Xfce 4 Cellmodem Plugin is a plugin that helps users monitor cellular modems.
One of the plugin's key features includes the current network type display for GPRS/UMTS along with the current signal level display. Users can configure the maximum signal level and low/critical signal levels as per their requirements. Additionally, the plugin asks for a PIN in case the modem needs it and offers quick visual feedback on modem and registration status via LEDs.
However, there exist some known issues with the plugin. Sometimes, cards/drivers stop responding on the control channel, which is an issue associated with the driver and not the plugin. In such cases, users can email for finding a workaround. Moreover, some cards/drivers tend to reply 'no registration' despite being registered, which seems to be related to card firmware.
The latest release of the plugin comes with new features such as support for auto-detection of known modem devices (PCI/USB), HSDPA detection (for modems that support it using _OHCIP), and smaller LEDs suitable for low resolutions. Additionally, the plugin no longer showcases an error after sending a PIN and comes with a Czech translation thanks to Michal Várady.
Overall, the Xfce 4 Cellmodem Plugin is a reliable and helpful monitoring plugin for cellular modem requirements.
