The XMMS plugin, xmms-rawcdr, is designed to play audio tracks from ripped CDs. It is a useful tool for those who want to listen to their favorite music tracks offline.
One of the key benefits of using xmms-rawcdr is its ability to play mixed type audio files (.wav and .cdr) before recording them on a CD-R through utilities like cdrdao or cdrecord. This is especially useful when you need to ensure that the audio sounds polished and professional.
However, it is important to note that raw cdr files (that are ripped from a CDROM) don't contain any headers. Also, these files are always set at 44100 samples/sec, 16 bit, 2 channels, big endian order (MSBL LSBL, MSBR LSBR). As such, this file type can only be detected by a .cdr extension.
If xmms comes across a *.cdr file that is not a .cdr raw audio file, you're likely to experience noise and/or damaged speakers if played at a loud volume. So, be sure to use xmms-rawcdr carefully and only with the right audio files.
