Yammi is a software that helps users manage their digital music collections. It provides features like organizing music files, creating playlists, and editing metadata.
Yammi currently supports three media player backends, including XMMS, Noatun, and an internal arts player, and also offers experimental support for gstreamer. One of the key features of Yammi is its fast and easy fuzzy search function that enables you to search 5,000 songs in less than a second for a potentially misspelled song.
Some of the other functions that Yammi provides include support for id3, ogg, and flac tag reading and writing (including id3v2) via taglib, the ability to organize songs into playlists/categories, automatic folder structure (by artist/album/genre/year/history), easy navigation between folders, automatic statistic keeping (when/how many times was a song played?), powerful consistency checks to keep your song database consistent, the ability to organize names and location of song files by enforcing a configurable directory/filename pattern (e.g., /music/{artist}/{album}/{trackNr} {artist}-{title}.{suffix}), jukebox functionality to load song files on demand from CDs/DVDs, and the ease of burning a selection of songs to audio or data CD/DVD (using K3b).
Moreover, Yammi provides assistance for backing up your song collection to multiple CDs/DVDs, prelistening to songs on headphones to DJ your own party (requires a second sound device), and invoking other programs such as cdlabelgen or your own shell scripts to generate CD labels, transfer files to your IPod or execute other commands using the information from Yammi's song database.
In the latest release of Yammi, some bugs were fixed, including an incorrect qualifier in "fuzzsrch.h" causing compilation problems with newer versions of gcc (4.0 and above) and a bug in consistency check that was not detecting two songs with identical primary keys (Bug 1436536). Overall, Yammi is a comprehensive music manager that is worth checking out for individuals with large music collections.
