This WordNet-based thesaurus is a useful tool for finding synonyms and related words.
The primary focus of Artha is on high usability, incorporating simplicity throughout the user experience. Some of the unique features that contribute to its usability include hot key combo, notifications, and more. After running the application, it will be displayed within the system tray.
Users have the ability to select any text within any window and call upon Artha by pressing the set hot key combination, which will bring up the definition for the word being searched for. For those who prefer the app to stay in the background, rather than popping up, simply enable notifications. This will result in a balloon tip notification displaying the prime definition of the selected word from WordNet within the system tray, whenever the hot key is triggered.
Technically speaking, Artha is written in pure C, employing the GTK+ widget kit & Glib, making it both cross-desktop and cross-platform functional. It makes use of libnotify for notifications. Although initially intended for use as an advanced replacement for WordWeb specifically within GNU/Linux environments, variations of GNU/Linux are currently being targeted. The project is planned to commence with porting to other UNIX-like systems, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows in the near future.
