Catfish is a versatile file search program with various backends that can be customized using the command-line interface.
Catfish currently supports four backends, find, (s)locate, tracker and beagle. To use Catfish, you will need GTK+ version 2.4.x, PyGtk2, Glade2 and python-xdg (optional).
The latest release, catfish 0.3, is considered stable as there have been no reported bugs for some time. A few changes have been made, such as the removal of the settings dialog which will soon be rewritten for version 0.4. A small bug involving the file type buttons has also been fixed, preventing the left pane from being too large.
Overall, Catfish has vast room for improvement, and the upcoming 0.4 release aims to bring forth a considerable number of improvements. Users are urged to be patient while waiting for the next update.
