Dekagen Bourne Shell is a Linux command line tool that was previously called ripenc. It is interactive and can be used for other Unix operating systems.
With dekagen, you can avoid the hassle of manual naming and tagging of files using the automatic CDDB lookup feature. MP3 files receive ID3-tags for easy labeling, while Ogg-Vorbis has its labeling system. If you're using dekagen for the first time, it will automatically look for the third-party software requirements and set its preferences accordingly. The software will then check these settings before every run, readjusting them if necessary.
If you plan on installing dekagen system-wide, you can pre-set the defaults within lines 36-49 of the script as an administrator. Otherwise, there's no need to change these values.
This release of dekagen comes with several fixes and improvements. It fixes bad file handling, improves name filtering, and ensures (non-)capitalization of file names. Furthermore, it removes non-ASCII characters from the source code and improves the quoting. Additionally, the software now has a new naming convention (#8). With all these improvements, dekagen proves to be a useful and efficient music CD ripper for Linux and other Unices users.
