Filofant is a mail archiving and document indexing software that securely stores and organizes important documents and emails, making it easy to retrieve information when needed.
Installation of Filofant Project requires some knowledge of configuring scripts. Currently, there is no install script available for the software, meaning that users must carry out the entire installation process on their own. The recommended installation process is to download the software and binaries from the source code, configure, make, and finally make install from the source directory.
The CGI will also require installation and will be installed in $PREFIX/bin/cgi-bin. Users who choose to move the CGI should ensure that it's done correctly with the correct directory of their web-server. Moreover, filofant requires the environment variable FILOFANT_HOME to find its config and binary files. If this variable is not defined, the base config must be stored at /etc/filofant.rc. The CGI also requires this variable setting up, for example, in Apache, setting it with the SetEnv directive.
To set up Filofant Project's system, users must create a system user (e.g., filofant), which has access to the base directory ($FILOFANT_HOME) of the installation. Additionally, users must create a database with the createdb command and an equal user name as the system user must be created with the createuser command. The user ought to be a database administrator. Finally, the database schema in the filofant.sql file (in the sql directory) must be inserted. If the user has a nonstandard system for the web-server or the filofant, they should correct the grants in the sql file before inserting.
Setting up the base configuration is required to run filofant adequately. Users must locate the file filofant.rc in the directory $FILOFANT_HOME/etc, edit (or create) the file, and enter the following lines:
BaseDir=/opt/filofant
User=filofant
DBUser=filofant
DBName=filofant
Users must fill in the appropriate data, and if there is password protection at the database or if the database is not at the same machine, the following lines must be added:
DBPwd=
DBPort=
DBHost=.
In conclusion, Filofant Project is easy to use for users seeking to organize emails and documents readily. The software requires a manual installation method, but the installation process is clear and easy to follow. The software provides detailed instruction on its usage to advance its user experience.
