Finnix is a Linux CD distribution that is bootable and self-contained.
One of the main advantages of Finnix is its ability to mount and manipulate hard drives and partitions, monitor networks, rebuild boot records, install other operating systems, and perform other typical system admin tasks. Not only that, but Finnix also includes the latest technology and features for system administrators, such as the Linux kernel 2.6, LVM2, encrypted partitions, and more.
Size is another important factor, and Finnix excels in this area. Despite being packed with powerful features, Finnix is a smaller distribution, totaling just over 300MB. However, it's also dynamically compressed into a 105MB bootable image, which makes it even more convenient.
It's important to note that Finnix isn't intended for the average desktop user. It doesn't include any desktops, productivity tools or sound support - all of these have been removed to keep distribution size low.
Finally, Finnix is freely distributable under the terms of the GNU General Public License.
