Karss is a SuperKaramba-based RSS aggregator that organizes multiple feeds in one place, displaying entries in a chronological order.
Compared to its predecessor, karss boasts several features that stand out. These include a default dark background, larger fonts (12 vs. 10) for better readability, and a higher number of entries displayed at one time (25 vs. 20). Moreover, it reports the "last update" as the time from the latest update, and there is a configuration option to use Firefox instead of Konqueror. Plus, karss has rewritten and more manageable innards that streamline its performance.
It is crucial to note that karss requires the PyXML package (for the time being). If you run it from the command-line (superkaramba karss-03.skz) and get an error stating "AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'DefaultHandler'", try installing the PyXML package. For instance, in kubuntu, PyXML is called python-xml, and one can install it via "sudo apt-get install python-xml". If you experience any other errors, please inform the developer.
Upon running karss for the first time, it will create a file feedlist.xml in a folder in your user's SuperKaramba directory (usually ~/.superkaramba/karss). The format of the XML file should be self-explanatory. Modify it accordingly to add or remove feeds. In terms of features and improvements, karss promises to evolve, with other features to be added later on. Users' feedback, comments, and screenshots are appreciated.
The requirements for karss include SuperKaramba and KDE. The latest release comes with several improvements, including an update that causes the widget to react when clicking "Last Updated" and tooltip summaries better by including the title. Overall, karss is a great software to have if you need an RSS aggregator in one unified theme, with countless customizable and convenient features.
