Sope is a free, Linux-based Playstation emulator software for Unix systems that allows users to run Playstation games on their desktops.
To use Sope, simply run the command " ./sope [arguments] [file(s)]". You can load PS-X EXE files or .PLL files (for many-files demos). PLL files are plain text files, and each line performs a specific action such as loading an executable file, loading a data file, or setting the PC register value.
Possible arguments include "-n" for disabling texturing, "-v=n" for forcing VBlank interrupt period, "-p" for equal display, "-s" for enabling sound, "-B" for booting cdrom, or "-h" to display a help message. Please note that the PS-X bios image file must be named as "bios" and must be located in the current directory.
Sope also features pad emulation using various keys, such as Spacebar for Start or Enter for Select. Other keys such as qwert, 123x, and arrow keys are used as L1, L2, R1, R2, and direction buttons respectively. Pressing Escape quits the emulator, whereas n, b, u or f keys are used for disabling or enabling texturing, bilinear filtering, all rendering, or cosmetic stuff.
In order to use Sope, you need a Playstation Bios Image (scph1001.bin is recommended) and OpenGL libs (only for OpenGL renderer). Additionally, you need AAlib, SVGAlib, X-Windows or SDL (for soft renderer) or GTK+ >= 1.2.0 (only if using debugger). Lastly, an Alpha or x86 CPU is required if using dynamic recompilation.
Overall, if you're looking for an emulator that supports Linux and Unix systems, Sope might be an excellent option for you, especially if you're interested in playing demos.
