Netacct-NetStat is a PHP-based web interface designed for Netacct-MySQL, a widely-used traffic statistics daemon in Linux and BSD.
The package provides a daemon called nacctd, which logs all traffic passing through the machine where it runs. This is similar to what mrta does. It performs best when installed on a router/gateway machine. In addition, Netacct supports a peering file that enables you to divide traffic into local and international peering. Check the `man nacctpeering` manual for more information.
In the latest release, several new features and bug fixes have been implemented. Users now have the option to set the PROMISC mode in the config file. A small bug that replaced && with || in mysql.c has been corrected, thanks to Robert Weber. Moreover, a Solaris startup script and Bulgarian readme file have been added.
Netacct now compiles and runs on Solaris, and the code has been fixed to return the correct value. The package also removes some old code from configure.in (HASHSIZE), fixes many created files in /tmp/nacctd.write.[pid] on every write in mysql, and resolves the error: no filename given on FreeBSD. Lastly, Ukrainian IP space has also been added.
Overall, Netacct provides a powerful and easy-to-use interface that simplifies traffic statistics analysis. With its compatibility and numerous features, Netacct is an excellent tool to use on networks.
