Object-based Password" is a software that enables users to create passwords that are based on selected objects or images. By using this tool, users can significantly enhance the security of their passwords, making them harder to guess or hack.
To use ObPwd, simply select any text, image, or link of your choice on a web page, and right-click to bring up the context menu. You will then see one (or more) of the following four menu items under the Object-based Password (ObPwd) menu:
- Get ObPwd from Local File: This generates ObPwd from a local file of your choice, selected through a file dialog.
- Get ObPwd from Selected Text: Pure text is used from the selection without any formatting information when generating the ObPwd.
- Get ObPwd from Image: This generates ObPwd from the selected image on the page, either through right-clicking or manually selecting it.
- Get ObPwd from Link: This generates ObPwd from a selected link, but only certain types of HTTP and HTTPS links are supported.
If you generate a password through ObPwd on any page and then right-click inside a password input box, the extension will automatically copy the generated password directly into the box. Otherwise, you will be given the option to copy the password to your clipboard and paste it wherever required.
With ObPwd, you can also customize your password preferences to suit your specific needs. You can adjust the password length, include special characters, and enable password creation from any URL. However, it's important to remember that these preferences are global, not site-specific, and the extension does not remember your settings for any specific site. Therefore, if you generate a password with certain preferences, it's crucial to ensure that the same preferences are selected when you want to re-create the password.
When selecting files or web objects for ObPwd, it's essential to choose things that are personally meaningful to you, as you must recall them when you want to re-create your password. However, system files or publicly accessible files like personal websites or social media sites should not be used. Instead, choose web objects that generally do not change, such as snapshots of old pages archived on archive.org.
Lastly, the generated password length is limited to 12 characters, and all passwords are alphanumeric, with no special characters. Additionally, the extension uses at most the first 100,000 bytes of your object, whether it's a file, URL, or text, for generating the password.
