Palaver is a chat tool designed for Jabber and XMPP servers that enables multiple users to communicate simultaneously.
As an application for web-based services, Palaver is entirely written in Python and runs on the Twisted framework for internet applications. You should also note that its licensing follows the open-source MIT license.
Essentially, the aim of Palaver is to replace JCR mu-conference. Mu-conference has provided substantial support to its user community, but its lack of maintenance has created a need for a more current replacement.
Presently, Palaver has already integrated all the necessary basic features of multi-user chat, including functionalities such as ban lists. Palaver also intends to incorporate other additional features and ultimately, accommodate the entire protocol.
The MIT open-source license makes it possible for commercial and non-commercial users and developers to freely use, modify, and distribute Palaver without any hidden costs or financial obligations.
Notably, Palaver does not necessarily require running on the same machine as the server or depend on shared code.
To initiate a successful installation of Palaver, use the Python distutils build and install system. Use "python setup.py install" to install the software. For more information on options, see the distutils documentation, which frequently recommend the use of the --prefix=PATH option to determine installation directories.
