Paradise 2000 is a Netrek client that has been modified by the author to suit their preferences, providing a unique and personalized experience.
One aspect of Paradise 2000 that sets it apart from other clients is its sound system. While other clients have simple sound effect systems, Paradise 2000's sound system is exceptional. It uses psychoacoustic stereo effects that place sounds based on where they happen. Moreover, the latest version of Paradise-2000 also has speech output using IBM's ViaVoice TTS, which means the client will say something out loud if someone sends a carrying message.
It's worth noting that Paradise 2000 is designed for Linux and FreeBSD users only, and it is not an open source software. The Paradise name might also be misleading, but rest assured that it works perfectly fine on standard bronco servers.
All in all, if you're looking for a Netrek client with excellent sound quality and regular updates, then Paradise 2000 is definitely worth checking out.
