A 64-bit distribution that is an adaptation of Ubuntu 9.04.
Their mission statement is Simplified Computing, and it accurately defines the software's vision. However, there are some issues with the software that users should know. For instance, when you boot to the liveCD, it takes 10 seconds to log in. This process will occur because Canonical introduced it in Ubuntu 9.04. Also, the software doesn't have Usplash, which is a feature preferred by some users. Custom Usplash files failed to load up, but the developers are working on it, and they hope to have Usplash back in PC/OS Open64 Workstation 10.1.
On the LiveCD, the panel launchers do not work. This is attributed to XFCE including a working directory structure to panel launchers. You can make it work by right-clicking, hit properties, and set it; then, it will work fine. You should also know that there will only be 3 releases of Open64 (Workstation, Server, and Core) coming out. Currently, the developers are testing these two other releases.
Finally, it's worth noting that the developers will not release an Open64 desktop CD image unless there is significant demand for it. Therefore, users should weigh their options and determine whether the Workstation, Server, or Core versions are excellent for their needs. Overall, PC/OS Open64 Workstation is a reliable operating system that's worth checking out.
