PuTTY is a tool that provides users with a Telnet and SSH client, allowing them to securely connect to remote servers and networks. It enables users to establish encrypted connections and easily manage and transfer data.
When you run PuTTY on a Windows machine, you can connect to a Unix machine, for instance. Once you connect, a window appears. Type whatever you like into the window, and your commands are sent straight to the Unix machine. The Unix machine's output appears in the same window. With PuTTY, you can work on a machine remotely as if you were sitting right in front of it.
PuTTY comes with a range of features that make it an essential tool for users: the Telnet and SSH client itself- PuTTY, SCP client-PSCP, SFTP client-PSFTP, Telnet-only client-PuTTYtel, a command-line interface to the PuTTY back ends-Plink, SSH authentication agent for PuTTY, PSCP, and Plink- Pageant, and RSA and DSA key generation utility-PuTTYgen.
Please note that using PuTTY, PSCP, PSFTP, and Plink in countries where encryption is prohibited is illegal. It is legal to use PuTTY, PSCP, PSFTP, and Plink in England and many other countries, but if you are unsure, it is recommended to seek legal advice before downloading.
The latest release of PuTTY is primarily focused on resolving bugs.
