Smartbox is a network server with easy management and minimal hardware requirements. It is resilient and feature-rich, making it an ideal choice for businesses.
Additionally, the Smartbox can serve as a groupware server with Wikidbase, Open-Xchange, OpenGroupware, and more. It also functions as an email server and has Asterisk software PBX capabilities to support a local VoIP phone system.
The Smartbox is based on the highly stable and well-supported Ubuntu Linux distribution. It's aimed at voluntary and non-profit organizations that require control over their network servers without the added cost of conventional ones. Users can add new network users or recover files from the backup system with ease.
The design of the Smartbox is based on research into the voluntary and community organization sector by the team members of Illuminate ICT, along with the findings of other ICT Hub projects. The web interface also makes configuration simple, while remote Smartbox-to-Smartbox backup is currently under development.
New features in this release include a port to Ubuntu 8.04, a Wikidbase development version, a Windows domain controller, an automatic logon.bat generator, and an easy-to-use historical backup system.
