Sound-Rec-Ed is a software that allows users to record and edit sounds. It is a tool for capturing, modifying, and manipulating audio files with ease.
While not a full-blown professional mixer application, SoundRecEd offers frequently desired functions for casual users. Its graphical front-ends (GUIs) for existing sound utilities make it easier to perform frequently repeated command-combinations with the push of a button. Sound-Editor also provides some visual editing capabilities.
SoundRecEd is easily configurable to use any alternative tools you prefer aside from its default settings. Without the software, you would need to record audio using the ALSA arecord function on the command-line, which could take some time to manipulate when you want to pause recording or split it into separate files. Sound-Recorder automates these tasks, similar to using a tape-deck, and can also convert recordings into OGG or MP3 and delete WAV files after compression.
If you need to cut a small section of audio or break up long audio files, Sound-Editor can help. It provides visual information for editing audio files and can apply segue fading if needed. Plus, you can set Sound-Recorder to periodically break the recording into separate files if you need to record audio unattended for an extended period.
Finally, SoundRecEd supports the creation of audio CDs from the WAV-files captured by Sound-Recorder, as well as MP3 or OGG disks that can be written as regular data files. Compared to other complex sound applications, SoundRecEd offers only simple functions and aims to be self-contained with minimal dependencies for easier installation and maintenance.
