Taskbar-compiz is a tweaked applet for the Kicker taskbar. It is designed to function seamlessly with Compiz, offering users improved functionality for their desktop user interface.
Taskbar-compiz comes with an array of features that are guaranteed to enhance user experience. One of the prominent features is the capability to filter task button through Compiz viewport. It also comes with all standard taskbar features that users can leverage on to improve productivity.
Despite its numerous features, there are still some improvements that can be made to taskbar-compiz. For instance, the "Show windows from all desktop" options in taskbar settings are not visible when running under Compiz. Also, task sorting by Compiz viewport and minimizing the window by clicking on the button in the taskbar is sometimes buggy.
The taskbar-compiz code is based on the taskbar applet from kdebase-3.5.5. Users can easily install the package by following the generic instructions in the INSTALL file. This generally involves installing it in the KDE directory using the command: ./configure --prefix='kde-config --prefix', make, and make install. It is important to note that superuser rights may be required to execute the 'make install' command. Alternatively, users may wish to install the package in a different directory by running ./configure --prefix=/opt/taskbar-compiz, make, and make install. However, to complete this process, users must inform KDE of the new prefix by ensuring that KDEDIRS contains it, e.g. 'export KDEDIRS=/opt/taskbar-compiz:/usr,' and then restart KDE.
Once taskbar-compiz is installed, users can easily add a new applet using the kicker dialog. To do this, right-click on the kicker and select "add an applet to the panel" -> "Taskbar - Compiz."
