XRally is a software project that replicates the popular Rally X arcade game in X11 operating systems. It aims to provide users with an experience identical or similar to the original game.
One of the major selling points of this game is that it is highly customizable. Players can create custom tilesets and levels and load them during runtime, effectively changing the game's entire look and feel. For example, players can replace cars with boats, creating a whole new experience.
In the latest release, features like the easy level have been added, which is ideal for beginners. The radar display bug has been fixed, and other bugs have been resolved. The XM2Mod utility has been introduced, and the game now outputs maps in the new map format. The maps have been adjusted for better gameplay, and irrelevant features have been removed.
The game now has Debian files in the main repository. It has loads of sound enhancements and fixes such as a bug where the player wasn't receiving extra lives. The info bar layout has been changed to display level name, current map number, total number of maps, and high scores for the level. Further, the game now includes ANSI color codes for debug messages, and the intro menu and background image have been improved. Menu help and game help have been displayed on the respective screens.
The graphics API has also been updated, and some of the FPS counting routines have been improved. Moreover, expected frame len and real frame len are now displayed at the end of each map for players to understand their computer specifications to run the game efficiently. Overall, XRally is a fun, customizable game that provides a refreshing experience of the classic Rally X.
