XZGV is a speedy picture viewer that can be easily controlled using your keyboard.
What’s great about this software is that it supports most file formats, and the thumbnails used are also compatible with xv, zgv, and the Gimp. If you want to use xzgv without going through the file selector, you can input ‘xzgv file(s)’, which is a really efficient feature.
One of the main differences between xzgv and other picture viewers is that it uses one window for both the file selector and viewer. Unlike xv, it also allows both scrolling and fit-to-window methods of viewing large pictures. Additionally, it doesn’t ever mangle the picture's aspect ratio without your consent, which is reassuring.
What I particularly appreciated about this software is the extensive keyboard support it provides. If you prefer using the keyboard, this is probably the best viewer for you. However, it doesn't skimp on the mouse features either.
In terms of updates, the latest release has updated xzgv to GTK 2.0. It's important to note that some functionality has been lost in this process, primarily the ability to change the brightness, contrast and gamma of viewed pictures.
Overall, xzgv is a brilliant software that is incredibly easy to use, has multiple features and great support. To find out more about how it works and how to use it, you can access the ‘info xzgv’ or ‘man xzgv’ pages once it's installed.
