YFKlog is a versatile logbook application designed for Ham radio operators using *nix operating systems. It enables users to record and manage their Ham radio communications, making communication more organized and efficient.
YFKlog has several essential features that make it a reliable ham radio logbook. Firstly, it has a simple console-based user interface. Secondly, it has a backend that can support either MySQL or SQLite databases. Thirdly, it can support unlimited numbers of logs. Fourthly, it has ADIF import and export capabilities that allow easy log backup. Fifthly, it has high-quality QSL print with LaTeX. There are several google hits for "QSL card latex," which can be used for samples. Sixthly, it has award tracking and statistics functions. Lastly, it supports ARRL LOTW.
The requirements for using YFKlog are minimal. Firstly, Perl 5 with Curses, DBI, and Strict are necessary. Secondly, access to a MySQL DB, or SQLite 3 with the required Perl bindings needed. Thirdly, LaTeX 2e with the geometry package (this is optional, needed only for QSL label print). Lastly, any old computer can run YFKlog, with the author having used it on a PII-600 with 128MB RAM, running FreeBSD 5.3. It was developed and tested mainly using Mandrake 9.2, Debian 3.1, and FreeBSD 5.3.
The new release of YFKlog comes with several additions and improvements. Firstly, it has a remote logging interface to fldigi/gmfsk. Secondly, it has a call sign lookup function. Lastly, it has a custom statistics/awards function. The user interface has been improved, error handling has been streamlined, and ADIF import has been made better.
