Aeskulap is a viewer for medical images.
The primary aim of this project is to provide a full open source substitute for commercially available DICOM viewers. Aeskulap is built on top of gtkmm, glademm and gconfmm, making it operate seamlessly under the Linux operating system. There are ports of these packages available for other platforms, making it relatively easy to port Aeskulap to any platform where these packages exist.
An essential feature of Aeskuap is its DICOM support, which includes handling compressed (lossless, lossy), uncompressed images, and multiframe DICOM images. It also supports C-Find (query archive nodes) and C-Move (query / retrieve) operations, and proper display support for Rescale / Intercept tags. Besides handling colour images, Aeskulap's image processing capabilities are real-time, even when dealing with looping animations.
Aeskulap's viewing and browsing capabilities are top-notch, ensuring an excellent user experience. Easy mouse navigation makes all operations such as window levels, pan, zoom, and scrolling are handled with one hand. It features the ability to render reference images (3D projection of selected images) in all suitable views and browse & open local images.
This updated release of Aeskulap not only adds support for lossy image compression, but it also allows for user-defined window-level presets to be defined. Some significant bugs have been fixed, enhancing the overall experience of using Aeskulap.
Overall, Aeskulap offers unparalleled image-viewing capabilities aimed at the medical community. Its range of features, intuitive interface, easy handling, and real-time image manipulation make it a top choice for professionals in the field.
