Blinkensisters is a 2D scrolling game engine that features a Parallax style.
Installing Blinkensisters is straightforward, as long as you have the necessary libraries and packages. While it currently doesn't have a GNU autoconf/automake based build system, compiling the source is a breeze. All you have to do is execute the following commands: `tar xvzf blinkensisters-VERSION.tar.gz`, `cd blinkensisters-VERSION`, `make`, and `make install`. This will compile and install the software in `/usr/local/bin`, as well as install the necessary data-files in `/usr/local/share/blinkensisters`.
Keep in mind that you'll need root-permissions to install the game to `/usr/local/...`. But if you don't have those permissions or if you'd rather install it in another path for some reason, you can define a PREFIX Variable. For instance, executing `make PREFIX=$HOME` and `make install PREFIX=$HOME` will install Blinkensisters inside your home directory at `$HOME/bin/blinkensisters`. You may have to edit the Makefile to get it to work on certain Unix platforms or if you're compiling on a 64Bit system.
Before you get started, make sure that you have the necessary libraries and packages installed. This includes a C++ compiler, GNU Make, libSDL, libSDL_mixer, libSDL_image, and xutils, among others. We've tested and successfully built the software on various Unices including Suse Linux (9.2, 9.3), Debian GNU/Linux 3.1, Solaris 8, SGI IRIX, and the Cygwin environment in Windows.
Overall, we found Blinkensisters to be a superb gaming system that's perfect for gamers of all levels. With its simple text editor, Parallax-style 2D scrolling mechanism, and ease of installation, we highly recommend it to anyone looking for an excellent gaming experience.
