The Diatris Game Pack is a set of three Windows 95 games that feature diamond-shaped objects rotated by 45 degrees which are similar to Tetris. Each game includes seven objects.
In Y-Diatris, objects can move vertically and diagonally while in X-Diatris, the objects move only in two diagonal directions, and vertical drop is not allowed. Finally, in H-Diatris, the objects can only move vertically and horizontally like most block drop games.
The goal of the games is to eliminate pieces. The rules are simple: completing any row of diamonds within the well turns the row translucent. The translucent diamond piece acts essentially as a placeholder for an object to fall through or take its place. Additionally, two adjacent complete rows of diamonds lead to the deletion of those two rows, with the above rows falling down in their place.
The games offer a perfect blend of Tetris's addictive nature with exciting new strategies for fitting diamond objects together. Players can continue playing Y-Diatris or X-Diatris for as long as 20 minutes without having to start a new game, which is an excellent feat once the player gets the hang of it. Each placed shape is worth five points, and high scores are kept for every game played.
Sound card owners will appreciate the software's digital sound effects and Midi-based music, making the gaming experience more immersive. In summary, the Diatris Game Pack is an addictive and fun software that will undoubtedly keep gamers entertained for hours on end.
