Zen Garden is a software tool that enables users to monitor the installation and building processes of source archives.
Zengarden is designed with unique features that enable it to prevent build tools from interfering with files outside the build directory, and create a virtual chroot to perform installations or backup files overwritten during installation.
The installation process of Zengarden is Linux-based only. Before compiling, users can adjust the PREFIX variable by editing the Makefile using common values such as `/usr' and `/usr/local'.
To compile Zengarden, run `make' followed by `make install'. Installation is supported by ELF systems.
If you want to try Zengarden, do not use the common `make install' command. Instead, for the bash family, enter "LD_PRELOAD=./installwatch.so make install" and for the Tcsh family, type "setenv LD_PRELOAD ./installwatch.so ; make install." It is crucial to ensure that you are logged as a root in the installwatch source directory.
In the latest version of Zengarden, the tool has undergone autoolization, minor bug fixes, and now has a new viewcvs (not included in the tarball) feature, thanks to sofar.
Overall, Zengarden is an outstanding software tool with excellent features, useful in ensuring the smooth installation and building of source archives.
